Jamie Cooper: wife, mother, business owner and proud Grand Haven resident.
Jamie grew up in the small town of Panhandle, Texas and graduated from West Texas A&M University with a BS in Mass Communication. Before moving to Grand Haven she worked as a television news producer in both Texas and Colorado, as a marketing director for a vacation rentals company in Breckenridge, Colorado and as an audience development director for a magazine publisher in Holland.
Possessing an entrepreneurial spirit and the heart of an advocate, Jamie quickly became a voice for change in the cannabis space. She started volunteering with Michigan NORML and MiLegalize—the effort to legalize cannabis in Michigan. From her volunteering and making connections in cannabis, she saw a need for a specialized business to business (B2B) marketing and networking platform for the emerging industry. To fill that need she created and owns Cannabiz Connection. She is also publisher for Sensi Magazine which will launch in Michigan this summer. Both businesses are based in Grand Haven.
In 2018, Grand Rapids Business Journal selected Jamie as one of the Top 50 Influential Women in West Michigan and she was a 40 Under 40 Nominee in both 2017 and 2018.
Since 2016 Jamie has served on Grand Haven Musical Fountain Committee helping develop the technical operations of the Musical Fountain including program development, scheduling of programs, system maintenance and technological improvements.
Jamie currently serves on the board of the West Michigan Cannabis Guild. She is also a co-founder for Industry Power Women and is a mentor for Kadin Academy. The organizations serve as resources for women entrepreneurs in cannabis. Jamie is also active with National Cannabis Industry Association, the Michigan Cannabis Industry Association and Michigan NORML.
She is married to Lance Cooper, mom to Grand Haven Public Schools kindergarten student Kylan and enjoys her crazy, noisy cockatoo, Coco and her dog Dozer.

What unique qualities or experiences make you a good candidate for the council?
In 2014, I moved to Grand Haven from Breckenridge, Colorado, where I worked as a Marketing Director for a vacation rentals company. Shortly after moving here, I accepted a position as the audience development director for a tourism magazine in Holland. With my experience in tourism, I bring a lot of viable ideas to the table when it comes to generating tourism revenue and working with that industry.
I’m no stranger to being a voice for the people. In 2016 when the Michigan legislature passed a law creating the commercialization of the medical marijuana program, I started working closely with municipalities throughout the state to draft ordinances allowing medical marijuana establishments. After three years of observing and participating in city council and planning commission meetings, I felt I was confident enough to take on a similar role in my own community. My three years of service on the Grand Haven Musical Fountain Committee also helped prepare me for the work of being a commissioner.
